Dr Felix Patton

Dr Felix Patton is an independent African Rhino Ecologist and Wildlife Adviser. He has an MSc in Conservation Biology and a PhD based on research into individual rhino identification and the social organisation of black rhinos.

He has worked on reserves in East Africa with rhinos for over 20 years establishing population sizes by photo-identification, creating identification databases, training rangers in rhino identification, developing field monitoring programmes, analysing data and advising on the management of rhino populations including the translocation of some 40 black rhinos.

He acted as Conservation Adviser to Rhino Fund Uganda involving advising on the management of the only wild rhinos in Uganda at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Recently he oversaw a project to microchip and ear-notch several of the Ziwa rhinos.

He regularly contributes articles to SWARA, the journal of the East African Wildlife Society, on a variety of wildlife issues and has authored several research and management papers for PACHYDERM, the journal of the African Elephant and Rhino Specialist Groups.
